NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - To honor Belmont University Athletics' vast achievements over its 20 years as an NCAA Division I member institution, BelmontBruins.com continues its list of the Top 20 moments and accomplishments over the last two decades.

Today, we unveil moment No. 1 - Bruins On A Mission.

The Belmont University Mission & Values' Statement reads, in part:

"...Belmont University is a Christian community. The University faculty, administration and staff uphold Jesus as the Christ and as the measure for all things. Students encounter Christian values relevant to personal growth, service, and spiritual maturity and are expected to commit themselves to high moral standards."

From the lead of former women's basketball head coach, senior woman administrator, and spiritual matriarch Betty Wiseman, the Bruin program lives out the university's calling - to glorify God, proclaim Christ, mature in the faith, and give our lives away.

One extension of that is Belmont's Sports Evangelism Mission Trips.

In the Division I era alone, Belmont has sent 147 student-athletes to 10 countries spanning four continents to spread the gospel and share the love of Jesus.

Undeniable life change has taken place. For those touched in local communities, but perhaps more profoundly by Belmont student-athletes themselves; whose leadership once reserved to the playing field and classroom now extends to spiritual growth.

It encapsulates Matthew 28, and demonstrates how sports can be a vehicle for lasting change.
