Nate Woods Named to Pre-Season All-American Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) earned Pre-Season All-American accolades over the holiday break as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper and iconic baseball bat company Louisville Slugger. The Bruins' first baseman was selected to the Third Team for his performance over the past couple of seasons.
Woods, who set Belmont single-season program records for home runs (20) and runs batted in (78) in 2010 on his way to First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors, was also selected as the All-South Region Second Team Designated Hitter. Woods posted a .319 batting average, slugged .667, and recorded 21 multi-hit games and 21 multi-RBI games. Among Woods' many season highlights a year ago was a walk-off grand slam to defeat Campbell on May 16.
Only two other players from the A-Sun received the honors of Pre-season All-American for 2011. ETSU's Paul Hoilman was named to the First Team, while Mercer's Jacob Tanis joined Woods as a Third Team selection. Vanderbilt's Sonny Gray and Jason Esposito, as well as Tennessee Tech's Chad Oberacker gave the Middle Tennessee region four honorees in total.
