Belmont Hosts Ouachita Baptist Wednesday at 3:30
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont will conclude its 14 game homestand today, hosting Ouachita Baptist in a 3:30 p.m. tilt at Shelby Park in Nashville. After playing host to Ouachita Baptist, BU will head on the road to take on North Florida in a three game series in Jacksonville.
The Tigers are the Bruins' only non Division I opponent of the 2011 season. OBU is a part of the Gulf South Conference of NCAA Division II. Ouachita Baptist comes to Nashville with a record of 10-14 and are 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference. The Tigers most topped nearby Trevecca Nazarene by a score of 23-9. OBU is led at the plate by Kyle Zimmerman, who is batting .333 with five doubles and two triples. The senior leads the team with 18 rbi and has scored 11 runs for the Tigers. Zac Treece is the only Ouachita Baptist player to hold an ERA under three, recording a mark of 2.57 inseven appearances. He is 0-0 with one save in 14.0 innings pitched. Treece has struck out 17 while walking only six for the Tigers.
Belmont recorded its first sweep of the season, beating Ball State in three consecutive games last weekend. The Bruins topped the Cardinals by a score of 7-6 in 12 innings on Friday, before winning games of 4-1 and 8-4 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Senior Nate Woods (Cedar Rapids, Iowas) pitched a two-hitter to record his second win of the season on Saturday. Freshman James Buckelew (Suwanee, Ga.) then recorded his first collegiate win on the mound on Sunday. Woods and freshman Greg Brody (Dacula, Ga.) both tallied home runs during the weekend to lead the offense.
