Baseball Pushed Back to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team's home contest against Southern Illinois will be pushed back to a 5:00 p.m. start due to inclement weather.
Southern Illinois is currently 4-3 after winning its first two series of the year by 2-1 counts. The Salukis topped North Florida in two of three to open the season, and defeated Western Kentucky in two out of three games this past weekend. Southern Illinois fell to Tennessee-Martin in a midweek contest by a score of 9-4.
The Salukis are hitting .284 as a team, with Chris Serritella leading the way. The junior first baseman is batting .429 with five doubles, a triple, and a home run. Southern Illinois hasn't been quite as successful on the mound, recording a 5.18 ERA thus far. Right-handed pitcher Bryan Waldrop, who is scheduled to start Wednesday's contest, lost in his first start of the season.
Belmont is coming off of a big 3-0 win over UALR this past Sunday. The Bruins received great pitching performances from sophomore James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.), junior Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.) and senior Garrett Fanchier (Lebanon, Tenn.). Davis will start for Belmont on Wednesday, but the team is calling for a staff day on the mound versus the Salukis.
