NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team (26-14, 11-4) returns to Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend, traveling to Kennesaw State (24-16, 10-5) to take on the Owls in a three-game series. The Bruins are in first place, and one game ahead of KSU in the conference standings.
After winning the series finale to prevent a sweep at Mercer last weekend, Belmont split a pair of non-conference contests during the midweek to move to 26-14 on the year. The Bruins defeated Western Kentucky 7-0, but then fell to Tennessee Tech by a score of 7-6 on a walk-off home run.
Belmont will send weekend starters junior Chase Brookshire (Chattanooga, Tenn.), senior captain Matt Hamann (Northbrook, Ill.), and sophomore James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) to the mound against Kennesaw State, taking on eight-game winner Josh Carr, Zak Griffith, and Kevin Kyle.
The Owls welcome the Bruins to town with a 24-16 overall record after a pair of midweek wins over Jacksonville State and Mercer, both of which were non-conference contests. KSU has won five of its last six tilts, including two wins over Stetson in A-Sun play last weekend.
The trio of Aaron Dobbs, Ronnie Freeman, and Andy Chriscaden lead the way at the plate. Dobbs has a .391 batting average, 12 doubles and 38 runs scored. Freeman adds a .340 average and 40 runs batted in, while Chriscaden leads the team with 41 RBI, 10 home runs and 13 doubles.
All three games of the weekend will feature live audio on the Bruins Sports Network. Live Stats will be available at KSUOwls.com, and the Belmont Baseball Twitter Feed will give in-game updates throughout the weekend.
