Belmont Baseball To Host Selection Show Watch Party Monday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Athletics will host a Selection Show Watch Party on Monday as the Belmont baseball team awaits its opponents and site of competition for the 2012 NCAA Regional.  The gathering will take place at Sam's Sports Grill in Hillsboro Village at 10:30 a.m. CT with family, friends, fans, and media invited to join in the festivities.

Head Coach Dave Jarvis and all of the Bruin players will be on hand to see who and where this Belmont team will play next.  Come join the BU community as we celebrate the second straight NCAA Tournament berth and program-record 39 wins in 2012.

The Belmont baseball team (39-22) repeated as Atlantic Sun Conference Champions Saturday night, defeating Kennesaw State  (34-25) by a score of 10-4.  The Bruins went 4-1 through the A-Sun Tournament to claim their second straight title.  The Bruins' championship run marked the first back to back A-Sun Championships since Stetson did it in 2005 and 2006. It also marked the first time a team won the regular season and tournament championship since UCF in 2002.

Three Belmont players were named to the All-Tournament Team following the championship victory.  Senior captain Zac Mitchell (Cordova, Tenn.), junior captain Drew Turner (Shelbyville, Tenn.), and junior Judah Akers (Cookeville, Tenn.) received the honors.  Akers was also named Tournament Most Valuable Player, finishing with 12 hits in 25 at bats, a double, a triple, and six runs batted in.

The regional hosts and sites will be revealed Sunday around 2:30 p.m. CT, but the full NCAA field will be announced on Monday as ESPNU hosts the selection show starting at 11:00 a.m. CT.  Belmont will be one of four teams to play in a double elimination tournament from June 1-4 with hopes of moving on to a Super Regional the following weekend.
