MACON, Ga. - - Belmont Basketball faces Kennesaw State Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Basketball Championship.
The Bruins enter the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed, having won their fourth regular season title in the past six years.
Though the team did not have a single player rank among the top 30 league leaders in minutes played, several Bruins received all-conference honors Tuesday. Sophomore Ian Clark was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun, juniors Mick Hedgepeth and Scott Saunders were named Second Team All-Atlantic Sun, and freshman J.J. Mann was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd has utilized his deep and talented bench from the outset, and it has reaped major dividends. The Bruins have 11 players averaging double figure minutes, with a 12th player (Adam Barnes) having seen action in 27 games.
Belmont represented the Atlantic Sun Conference in the NCAA Tournament in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
