Men's Basketball Hosts Marshall Thursday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont men's basketball returns to action following the Christmas holiday Thursday against Marshall.
Belmont led from start to finish in defeating Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite Austin Peay, 77-67, Dec. 21. Senior Scott Saunders recorded his fourth career double-double in the victory, with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
By any measure (Sagarin, Ken Pomeroy, RPI), Marshall will be the highest ranked opponent Belmont will host in over eight years. On Nov. 30, 2003, Belmont hosted Air Force, and defeated the Falcons, 46-38. Air Force would go on to win the Mountain West Conference regular season championship, be ranked No. 25 in the final national regular season poll, and earn an at-large berth in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The Belmont-Air Force game was just the third game in the history of the Curb Event Center.
Belmont and Marshall played a highly-competitive and entertaining game Dec. 19 in Huntington, W. Va., with the Thundering Herd claiming an 87-86 victory. The Bruins had six players score in double figures that night. The last time Belmont had six players score in double figures in the same game was December 4, 2007, when the Bruins defeated Fisk University, 106-49.
Wednesday, Belmont junior Kerron Johnson was named to the midseason All-Atlantic Sun Team by CollegeHoopsNet.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from the Curb Event Center. The live play-by-play of Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram can be heard on the Bruin Sports Network. Live video streaming will be available via ASun.TV.
