NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball will face tradition-rich Arizona of the Pacific-12 Conference in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
Belmont received a program-best No. 11 seed and will face the No. 6 seeded Wildcats Thursday from the home of the Utah Jazz - EnergySolutions Arena - in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tip time is set for 6:20 p.m. CT/5:20 p.m. MT.
The game will be broadcast live on TNT, with Spero Dedes, Doug Gottlieb and Jaime Maggio on the call. The live play-by-play of Voice of the Bruins Kevin Ingram can be heard on 104.5 The Zone.
The Bruins (26-6) will represent the Ohio Valley Conference in their first year in the league. Belmont joins Kansas and Memphis as one of only three NCAA Division I programs to earn NCAA Tournament automatic bids six of the last eight years. Moreover, only Belmont, Gonzaga, Marquette and Xavier of NCAA Division I non-football playing schools have reached the NCAA Tournament at least six of the last eight years.
This marks Belmont's third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, for a heralded group of five Bruin seniors that have won 102 games, four conference regular season championships and three conference tournament championships.
Though Belmont has never faced Arizona - a program with four Final Fours and the 1997 NCAA Championship to its credit - the Bruins did play at Arizona's home court, the McKale Center, in the 2011 NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin.
Belmont is 1-4 lifetime against the Pacific-12 Conference, which includes a 70-62 victory at Stanford earlier this season.
