NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball defeated Trevecca Nazarene, 91-64, Thursday night.
Belmont played a rare road exhibition game, as the Bruins and Trojans agreed to an 11th hour contest in accordance with the NCAA waiver allowing a third exhibition game with proceeds benefiting hurricane recovery efforts throughout the United States.
Belmont showcased balanced scoring, using 60 percent shooting in the first half to build a 53-25 halftime lead.
A 3-pointer from freshman Nick Hopkins (Fayetteville, Tenn.) gave Belmont its largest lead, 76-39, with 11:25 remaining.
Head coach Rick Byrd, as expected, found ample opportunities to play his underclassmen, as the Bruins gained valuable experience.
Hopkins led four Bruins in double figures with 14 points. Senior Amanze Egekeze (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had 12 points, while junior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.) and senior Tyler Hadden (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had 10.
Belmont opens regular season play Nov. 10 at Washington. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks and the Bruin Sports Network.
