MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf team stands in ninth place after round one of the OVC Championship held Monday on the Fighting Joe Course at the RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

On a cool, cloudy day in North Alabama, the Bruins struggled throughout the round and finished with a team score of 305, good for ninth place.  SIUE has the team lead at 282, while Jacksonville State is second at 285.

Leading the way for Belmont is sophomore Daniel Booker.  The Dyersburg, Tennessee native had four birdies and survived an eight on the 10th hole to finish the day one in a tie for 28th place at 74 (+2).  He is seven shots behind individual leaders, Bobby Hayes of Jacksonville State and Charles Seals of Tennessee Tech.

"I played really well on the front nine today," said Booker.  "The quadruple bogey on 10 was bad, but I made sure that score did not define my round.  I hit some good shots on the rest of the back nine, but just couldn't make any putts."

Freshman Nate Thomson is two shots back of Booker and tied for 33rd place after posting a four-over par 76 on Monday.

Other Belmont scores from day one included: redshirt freshman Win Temple (T-38, 77), redshirt junior Logan Matthews (T-42, 78), and freshman McCullough Pickens (T-45, 80).

The second round will begin Tuesday morning at 8:00am.  Belmont will tee off from 8:50-9:30am with UT-Martin and Murray State.
