MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Belmont men's golf team moved up a spot and finished in ninth place at this week's OVC Championship held on the Fighting Joe Course at the RTJ Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
On a sunny, windy Wednesday, Belmont once again struggled to find birdies and posted a team score of 311 to finish the championship in ninth place at 921. Jacksonville State held off Eastern Kentucky for the team title by one stroke (866 to 867).
Sophomore Daniel Booker was the low scorer for the Bruins. The Dyersburg, Tennessee native carded a two-over par 74 on Wednesday to finish the championship in a tie for 15th place at 221. His round featured three birdies, 3 bogeys, and one double bogey. He becomes the 12th BU golfer to earn a top-20 finish at the OVC Championship.
Freshman Nate Thomson ran into trouble early, but fought back to post a three-over par 75 and a tie for 36th place at 229. Thomson was six over after five holes, including two double bogeys, but was three under over the last 13 holes to finish as the team's second leading finisher.
This tournament wraps up the season for the men's golf team. In 10 events, they posted five top-8 finishes, including a season-best fourth place finish in Savannah last February.
