NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team opens up its 2017 fall schedule this Monday and Tuesday as they compete at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Bruins hope improve on their play from last season. In 11 events, they had five top-eight finishes, including a season-best fourth place showing at Savannah last February.
Leading the way for Belmont are sophomore Nate Thomson and junior Daniel Booker. Thomson, a Wisconsin native, led the team in scoring at 74.9 and had four top-20 finishes. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer Team.
Booker ranked second on the team in scoring at 75.1 and had two top-20 showings, including a 15th place finish at the OVC Championship last April.
The men's golf team will have three newcomers who should make an immediate impact on the squad. Evan Davis was one of the top ranked golfers in the Kentucky and won the Kentucky Junior PGA Tour Championship the last two years. Bogle LaRue was All-Region performer in Knoxville and earned top-20 finishes at the last two Tennessee State Junior Amateur Championships, while Jack Uselton was a two-time State Tournament qualifier and won 19 events on Tennessee's Sneds Tour.
The Bruins will compete for the third straight year at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. The tournament will be a two-day, 54-hole event, with 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
