Brett Parker Earns ESPN Academic All-District Honors
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont men's soccer senior Brett Parker (Fairmont, W.Va.) was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District IV First Team, as announced by CoSIDA on Tuesday. This is the finance major's second time receiving the accolades in his career.
Parker, who also was a First Team selection as a sophomore in 2008, holds a 3.73 cumulative GPA and will now be submitted to the All-America ballot. To receive the Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must hold a GPA of 3.30 or over and be a regular contributor to his or her team on the field.
As a senior, Parker has stepped into a leadership role for the Bruins in 2010. The forward scored two goals in Belmont's 5-2 victory over Centenary, which led to the Bruins winning the Mafiaoza's Invitational. Parker also recorded his lone assist of the season in BU's final Atlantics Sun match of the season, finding freshman Nico Olsak (Boca Raton, Fla.) for a score in a 2-1 loss to Mercer.
This honor marks the eighth time a Belmont men's soccer player has been named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District Team, and Parker is now on the ballot to potentially become only the second ESPN Academic All-American in the program's history. Former Bruin Marcos Cabrera received the accolades after the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
