NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's soccer team opens the season with a road contest at Missouri State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  The Bruins will attempt to win their first game of the season for the first time since BU's 11 win season in 2008.

Belmont, who went 6-12-0 a season ago, is looking to improve on that win total from 2010 and return to the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament for the first time since 2008, when the Bruins advanced to the league semifinals.  BU returns a number of veterans on both offense and defense, including two-time A-Sun All-Conference selection junior Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn.).  Belmont won its only preseason contest, topping Bellarmine 1-0 on a rebound goal by sophomore Nico Olsak (Boca Raton, Fla.).

Missouri State finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 8-7-3 and a Missouri Valley Conference mark of 4-1-2.  The Bears defeated Evansville in the MVC Quarterfinals by a score of 2-0, but then lost to SIU Edwardsville 2-1 in the semifinals.  Heath Melugin returns as MSU's top scorer after tallying seven goals last season.  The Bears went 2-0-1 in preseason action, defeating Northeastern State and Columbia College while allowing no goals on defense.

Belmont and Missouri State have met only once in the all-time series between the two teams.  The Bears defeated the Bruins by a score of 3-1 in Nashville back in 2005.
