MACON, Ga. – Senior captain T.J. Brown (Hendersonville, Tenn.) earned Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career for his performance against Missouri State on Saturday, as announced by the conference on Monday.
A left back, Brown helped lead the Bruins to a 2-1 road victory over MSU this weekend, giving BU a 1-0 record for the first time since 2008. The captain scored the first two points of his career, assisting on both Belmont goals in the win.
Brown helped start the scoring after his long pass behind the defense found a streaking Alex Jenison (Evansville, Ind.) who one-timed the ball past the Missouri State goalkeeper. The Hendersonville, Tenn. native then assisted on Brandon Tarr's (Knoxville, Tenn.) game-winner with only 17 second remaining in the contest. Brown got his head on a free kick, and sent it back across the box to Tarr, who put it away for the win.
The senior defender and the rest of the Belmont men's soccer squad will next host Memphis on Thursday for the first home contest at E.S. Rose Park, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
