NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's soccer team is back in action at home Saturday afternoon against the Milwaukee Panthers. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. CT at E.S. Rose Park.
The Bruins (2-1-2) will host their first home conference match and look for their first conference win of the season against Milwaukee (2-2-2).
Belmont is coming off a 1-0 road win against Georgia State on Tuesday night in Emerson, Ga. The squad struck early, netting the lone goal of the match in the second minute of the contest. Freshman Matteo Bennati (Genova, Italy) netted his second goal of the season when junior Julian Lucumi Villegas (Cali, Columbia) delivered a cross from the left side that Bennati headed into the right side of the net. The goal would prove to be the difference in the match.
Bennati is now tied for first in the conference in game winning goals with two.
Junior Alex Seeley (Longmont, Colo.) also racked up six saves on the night to record the Bruins' third shutout of the season. Seeley has allowed one goal and made 22 saves this season. His save percentage (0.957) is the best in the Horizon League and the second-best in the country. He also leads the conference in total saves (22) and goals against average (0.194).
The squad leads the conference in team goals against average (0.37). This mark ranks seventh in the nation.
Scouting the Panthers
Head Coach Kris Kelderman is in his seventh season as coach of the Milwaukee squad. The Panthers are coming off a 2-2 tie with UMKC. Milwaukee has an exciting offense, averaging 20.50 shots per game which leads both the conference and the nation. On average, just over eight of those shots are on frame each game. Their offense also leads the conference in assists with eight on the season. The Panthers have allowed eight goals this season and have scored nine.
Players to Watch
Senior forward Nick Moon is dangerous in the Panther's attacking third. Moon averages just over five shots a game. That mark leads the Horizon League. Moon has one goal and two assists on the season while sophomore forward Evan Conway leads the Milwaukee squad with two goals.
Belmont is 1-2-0 all-time against Milwaukee. Last season, the Bruins suffered a 1-0 loss playing at Milwaukee.
