Coming for Cleveland

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's soccer team (3-2-2, 1-2-0) will return to the pitch on Saturday as they travel to Cleveland, Ohio to take on conference foe Cleveland State (4-4-1, 2-0-1).

Belmont is coming off a 4-0 loss on the road against Detroit Mercy last Saturday. 

The Bruins have been solid and consistent in the attacking third, having been awarded 55 corner kicks to their opponents 26.  The squad averages 7.86 corner kicks per game, the second most in the NCAA.

Belmont has also been solid on the defensive end of the field this season, leading the Horizon League in two statistical categories.  The team's save percentage of 0.833 and their average 5.00 saves per game lead the conference.  BU's team goals against average of 0.940 is second in the conference.

Junior keeper Alex Seeley (Longmont, Colo.) boasts a goals against average of 0.751 and a save percentage of 0.839.  Seeley leads the conference in both categories.

Scouting the Panthers

Head coach Kirk Harwat is in his first season at the helm of the Cleveland State men's soccer program.  Harwat previously served as an assistant coach for the program the past five seasons. The Vikings come into the match riding a two-game winning streak and have allowed only four goals in their last five matches. Cleveland State is currently sitting at third place in the Horizon league due to their great offence that puts an average of 6.22 shots on frame each game, the second most in the conference.  The Vikings have scored 12 goals on the season.

Players to Watch

Sophomore Vlad Jandric leads the Viking's high-octane offense.  Jandric leads the squad in goals with three, all of which have been netted in their last two matches.  Junior Noah Pio will also be a test to the Bruin back line.  He has scored two goals and has registered 27 shots on the season. Pio averages 3.00 shots per game, landing 1.12 on frame.

Series Breakdown

Belmont is 1-4-0 all-time against Cleveland State.  Last season, the Bruins opened conference play with a home match against the Vikings.  Belmont would fall 2-1 to the Vikings early in the season.
