Brian Baker Qualifies for his First Trip to Wimbledon
WIMBLEDON, England – Belmont men's tennis assistant coach Brian Baker has qualified for his first Wimbledon Championships, which begin next week outside of London.
Baker won all three of his qualifying matches this week to earn his first trip to tennis' most prestigious Grand Slam tournament. On Monday, he defeated Radu Albot of Moldova 6-2, 6-3 and then on Tuesday, he beat Germany's Denis Grenelmayr 6-2, 6-4. Then, today, he defeated Maxime Teixerira of France in four sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 to secure his spot in main draw of the championship.
The last month has been eventful for the Nashville native as he finished runner-up in the Nice Open and then reached the second round of the French Open. His recent success has him currently ranked 124th in the world in the most recent ATP Tour Rankings.
The Gentleman's Singles draw for this year's Wimbledon will be announced this Friday, June 22th. The tournament begins this Monday, June 25th.
