BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – In its first season in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), the Belmont men's tennis team was picked to finish fourth by the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office on Friday.
Tennessee Tech, the defending regular season champion, was the top vote getter with five first-place votes and 76 points. Austin Peay was picked second with two first place votes and 70, while defending tournament champion Eastern Kentucky was selected third with one first-place vote and 66 points. Rounding out the top-five was Belmont in fourth with 62 points and Jacksonville State in fifth with 48 points.
"Being picked fourth in the preseason poll brings some high expectations," said Jim Madrigal, Belmont head coach. "But we are ready for the challenges that will come in our first year in the OVC."
The Bruins, who are currently 0-2 on the season, will be back in action next Friday as they play Abilene Christian in a neutral site match in Clarksville, Tennessee. The team's first OVC match will be at Jacksonville State on March 16th.
