Men's Tennis Beats Jacksonville State to Advance to the OVC Semifinals
PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Belmont men's tennis team defeated Jacksonville State 4-1 in an OVC Tournament First Round match held Friday in Paducah, Kentucky. The win moves the Bruins into the semifinals on Saturday.
Belmont captured the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. Renato Antun and Henrique Norbiato won at number one over Axel Sundberg and Nenad Marcec 8-6, while at number three, Bruno Silva and Henrik Claesson defeated Felipe Diaz and Felipe Watanabe 8-2.
In singles, the Bruins continued their solid play as they posted wins a positions one, two, and four to clinch the 4-1 match win over the Gamecocks. At number one, Renato Antun beat Igor Santos 7-5, 7-5, while at number four, Bruno Silva defeated Felipe Diaz 6-1, 6-4. The clincher for Belmont was at number two as Henrique Norbiato beat Axel Sundberg in three sets: 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Belmont (8-14) now advances to semifinal round on Saturday when they will face #1 seed Tennessee Tech. The match is set for 2:00pm.
