Top Recruiting Class

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For the first time in program history, Belmont University Men's Tennis can boast one of the nation's Top 25 Mid-Major Men's Recruiting Classes for 2017, as announced by TennisRecruiting.net on Monday.  BU is the only program from the Ohio Valley Conference and the state of Tennessee to receive the distinction.

The Bruins will welcome Jake Briggs (Calhoun, Ga.), David Faulkner (Birmingham, Ala.), and Grant Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.) to the team's lineup beginning in the fall.

Briggs, a four-star recruit on TennisRecruiting.net, boasts a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 12.87 and is ranked No. 114 nationally while Faulkner, a three-star recruit, is ranked No. 1 in the State of Alabama in his class and No. 77 in the Southeast.  He holds a UTR of 10.94.  Kelly is a two-star recruit and is currently ranked No. 29 in the State of Georgia and holds a UTR of 10.90.

"I wanted to thank everybody in the ranking committee who voted for us," said Head Coach Mauricio Antun.  "The ranking is a statement about the quality of the players that we are bringing to our program.  Those guys have had great junior careers and they deserve to get such recognition for their hard work on the court.

"I am very excited to see what the future holds for this team.  We have a very young group of guys, including two OVC Freshman of the Year and All-OVC team selections.  We will work very hard this fall both on and off the court and focus on getting better day in and day out."
