Men's Track and Field Competes at Saluki Fast Start
CARBONDALE, Ill. – A handful of Belmont men's track and field athletes got the indoor protion of their 2011-12 season underway on Saturday afternoon. The group competed at the Saluki Fast Start hosted by Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, setting five personal records at the day-long meet.
In the running events, freshman John Inniger (Arlington, Ohio) led the way for the Bruins in a pair of events. In the 60m prelims, he finished 25th, crossing the line in a personal record 7.32 seconds. Sophomores Caleb Darnell (Lafayette, Tenn.) and Tyler Newkirk (Atchison, Kan.) rounded out the Bruin presence in the event, each recording personal records with their 31st (7.45) and 35th (7.55) place finishes. In the 200m, Inniger took 11th with a time of 23.07, for another PR. Darnell finished 18th in the event with a time of 23.74.
In the field events, Newkirk was the lone Bruin to place, taking 16th in the long jump with a mark of 6.06m (19'10.75") to PR in the event.
The Belmont men's track and field team returns to action on January 13 and 14 at the Saluki Open hosted by SIU-Carbondale.
