Record Breaking Night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's track and field team competed in the Music City Challenge this weekend at Vanderbilt where they broke multiple school and personal records.

The Belmont relay teams performed well at Vanderbilt.  The distance medley relay team of freshman Jackson Grzymkowski (Commerce, Mich.), freshman Ryan Teague (Double Oak, Texas), sophomore Ben Weisel (Nashville, Tenn.), and junior Anthony Didion (LaPorte, Ind.) broke a school record in the event with a time of 10:01.31. The 4x400 team of Teague, junior Nathan Nammour (Tampa, Fla.), junior Christian Crenshaw (Memphis, Tenn.), and sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brentwood, Tenn.) also broke the Belmont record with a time of 3:17.05.

Sophomore Braden Carei (Uniontown, Pa.) tied the school record in the pole vault with a jump of 4.60 meters.

Another school record was tied when Nammour ran the 200 meters in 22.21 seconds.

Distance runner junior Kaden Eaton (Columbus, Ind.) ran a personal record race in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:41.91.

The Bruins also boasted great races by their distance runners.  Belmont had three athletes finish in the top 20 in the 3000 meter run.  Sophomore Kaleb McLeod (Soperton, Ga.) led the Belmont team with a seventh place finish.  Teammate junior Luke Evans (Columbus, Ohio) finished in the 13th spot and sophomore Chase Ballard (Columbus, Ind.) in 17th place.

The Bruins boasted two top 10 finishes in the mile run. Sophomore Ben Weisel (Nashville, Tenn.) finished in fourth place and junior Matt Blivin (Durham, N.C.) finished in eighth place. Teammate freshman Matthew Edwards (Glamorgan, Wales, UK) narrowly missed the top 10 when he finished in 11th place.

Yet another personal record was broken when Matt Dsida finished the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.29.

"The relays killed it this weekend.  We set them up to run fast times, and the DMR ran for an OVC top time while the 4x400 meters is the OVC second best.  Overall, this was an awesome way to wrap up the exhibition meets before the conference championships. The distance guys showed up in a big way, and will make a big impact at the championship meet in two weeks," said Head Coach Jeff Langdon.

The Bruins will be back in action Feb. 24-25 at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charletson, Ill.
