NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's track and field team kicks off its outdoor season on Friday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
The meet, hosted by Georgia Tech, will be held at the George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta, Georgia.
The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. Eastern time with the men's and women's hammer throw.
The Bruins will be the only OVC competitors in the competition, but will compete against neighboring Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee State. Other entries include Florida State, Franklin Pierce, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Georgia State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, UNC-Asheville, and Notre Dame.
Last time out, the Bruins wrapped up their indoor season at the OVC Indoor Championship in Charleston, Ill.
At the meet, the Bruins were led by sophomore Braden Carei (Uniontown, Pa.) when he secured the gold medal in the pole vault and senior Del McSpadden, (Brentwood, Tenn.) who boasted a silver medal finish in the weight throw. Other medalists included junior Ryan Lipe, who took home the bronze medal in the heptathlon, and junior Caleb Corprew (Midwest City, Okla.) who brought home the bronze medal in the 60 meter hurdles. The Belmont DMR team also finished with a time good enough for the bronze medal.
