Setting The Tone
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's track and field team gained early momentum to its outdoor season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday.

The Bruins had athletes compete in 13 events and boasted nine top five finishes.

Coming off of a gold medal in the pole vault at the OVC Indoor Championship, sophomore Braden Carei (Uniontown, Pa.) channeled his recent momentum to earn a second place finish with a jump of 4.70 meters. His jump set a Belmont school record.

The throws squad showed up to Georgia Tech ready to compete.  In the shot put, the Bruins claimed the second, third, and fourth place finishes.  Senior Sean Magnuson (Mokena, Ill.) finished in the second place spot with a throw of 15.46 meters, a personal best.  Senior Walter Burn (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Corey Claiborne (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished in third and fourth places respectively.

In the Javelin, junior Stuart Landis (Victor, Mont.) notched a third place finish with a throw of 54.15 meters. Teammate junior Matt Walker (Southlake, Texas) notched a personal record in the event with a throw of 50.80 meters.

The Bruins also excelled in the 110 and 400 meter hurdles competitions.  In the 110 meter hurdles competition, junior Caleb Corprew (Midwest City, Okla.) notched the silver place finish running his race in a time of 15.11.  Junior Christian Crenshaw (Memphis, Tenn.) finished the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.85, a personal best by over a second, which gave him the third place finish.

Junior Nathan Nammour (Tampa, Fla.) tied the Belmont school record with a time of 21.79 in the 200 meter dash.

Belmont distance runners also found success on Friday.

The Bruins notched two top five finishes in the 1500 meter run.  Sophomore Ben Weisel (Nashville, Tenn.) finished the race in third place with a time of 3:53.64 while teammate junior Anthony Didion (LaPorte, Ind.) finished in fourth place with a personal best time of 3:53.84. Junior Kaden Eaton (Columbus, Ind.) also recorded a personal record in the event with a time of 3:55.79.

"This was a fun meet to start off the outdoor season.  There was a lot going on, and it's always exciting to see what kind of tone our athletes will set for the rest of the season. It'll be nice to get some warmer weather for training and keep moving the mark next weekend at Ole Miss," said Assistant Coach Joe Frye.

The Bruins will be back on the track March 24-25 at the Ole Miss Invitational.
