GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Belmont men's track and field team boasted a successful weekend at the University of Florida led by their sprints crew.
The Bruins competed in the 400 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, 1500 meter run, and 4X400 meter relay at the Florida Relays.
Junior Nathan Nammour (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Ryan Teague (Double Oak, Texas) came into the weekend with momentum. Both athletes broke personal and school records last weekend at the Joe Walker Invitational in the 400 meter dash. The school record was yet again bested this weekend. Nammour set the new school record with a personal best time of 47.68 while Teague also broke the school record he previously set recording a personal best time of 48.26.
Two Bruins competed in the 1500 meter run. Sophomore Ben Weisel (Nashville, Tenn.) gave the Bruins a 14th place finish with a time of 3:48.83 which was close to a personal best. Freshman Jackson Grzymkowski (Commerce, Mich.) also competed in the event clocking in at 4:03.88.
Caleb Corprew (Midwest City, Okla.) continued to find success in his sophomore campaign this weekend in the 400 meter hurdles. He finished with a near personal time of 53.78.
The 4X400 meter relay team of Teague, Corprew, Nammour, and sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brentwood, Tenn.) put together a nice race with a time of 3:16.04.
In Saturday's lone action at the Bellarmine Invite, senior Del McSpadden (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished second in the men's hammer with a mark of 57.75.
The Bruins will be back on the track at the Hilltopper Relays April 7-8.
"The sprinters had a great day today. It's good to see that all of the hard work in the weight room and on the track is paying off. For the second week in a row we broke the men's 400 record and for Nate to do it out of lane 9 was really impressive. Caleb opened up with a time close to his PR in the 400 hurdles which is a good sign for the season. The guys were able to put together a solid relay in a very competitive heat, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Overall I'm happy with how the whole guys and girls spring crew performed this weekend," said Associate Head Coach Cameron Harvey.
