NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's track and field team will be in action this holiday weekend at the Austin Peay State University Invitational.
Action at Fortera Stadium will begin in nearby Clarksville at 5 p.m. Friday with the pole vault and at 10 a.m. Saturday with the discus and shot put.
Belmont will compete amongst a field of nineteen schools. Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and UT Martin will also represent the OVC at the meet. Neighboring Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb will also be competing.
Last weekend, the Belmont throws squad competed at the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky University.
Junior Stuart Landis (Victor, Mont.) was impressive at the meet recording a mark of 53.77 meters in the javelin, giving him the first place finish.
In Bowling Green, all four shot put athletes made it to the finals led by a second place finish by sophomore Corey Claiborne (Alpharetta, Ga.). Sophomore Stephen Gibson (Tuscola, Ill.) finished with a personal best mark of 14.80 meters. Claiborne and Gibson also boasted personal record throws in the hammer with throws 51.99 meters and 47.58 meters respectively.
