Frye, Cheruiyot Lead Men's Track and Field at the Vanderbilt Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. – Once again, the Belmont men’s track and field team had another successful weekend as they competed at the Vanderbilt Invitational held Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Track Complex in Nashville.

Belmont posted 20 top-10 finishes in the 15 events they competed in during the two-day event.

Among the running events, BU was led by senior Hillary Cheruiyot, who won the 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.54. His teammate Josh Helton finished right behind Cheruiyot in second place with a time of 4:00.88. In the 5000 meters, senior Kip Hill placed fourth with a time of 15:15.10, while teammates Clay Hannah and Kyle Sullinger were right behind in fifth and sixth. In addition, the 4x400 relay team of Brent Buyse, Matt Fiedler, Sam Parr, and Hillary Cheruiyot finished fifth with a time 3:24.68.

In the field events, BU was led once again by junior Joe Frye. Frye won the hammer throw with a mark of 183-08 and finished second in both the discus (137-00) and shot put (51-09.25). Junior Matt Fiedler also posted third place finishes in the high jump (6-02) and javelin (161-10).

The Bruins are back in action next Saturday at the Western Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
