EAST LANSING, Mich. – Women's basketball signee Frankie Joubran led her Goodrich High School (28-0) team to the program's first-ever Class B State Championship over the weekend in Michigan
Joubran, a 6-1 forward, scored a team-high 16 points, including going 9-for-10 at the charity stripe, and five rebounds in the 60-53 Martian victory over Grand Rapids Catholic Central (24-4).
Goodrich also made history by ending the season with an unblemished overall record of 28-0. No team in the program's existence has been able to accomplish such a feat. The Martians' last three wins of the state tournament came against the past three state champions in Class B. During the year, Goodrich beat two of the Class A semifinalists as well as the Class C state runner-up. Goodrich also became just the second public school to win a Class B girls basketball title in 20 years.
In the fall, Joubran and fellow signees, Natalie Cohlmeyer (Evansville, Ind.) and Cheyenne North (Gallatin, Tenn.), will join a Bruin team that went 12-18 during the 2011-12 campaign, including a trip to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Atlantic Sun Tournament.
