Women's Golf Leads after the First Round of the Belmont Invitational; Newman Has the Individual Lead

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team has the lead after round one of the Belmont Invitational held at Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee.  In addition, Belmont senior Jennifer Newman is the individual leader.

The Bruins carded a team score of 304 on Monday to grab the first round lead.  They are 13 shots ahead of UAB and Lipscomb, who are tied for second place.  Evansville is in fourth place at 318, while Austin Peay is in fifth place at 323. 

Four Bruins are among the top-10 after round one.  Senior Jennifer Newman has the individual lead after posting a one-under 71.  It is her lowest 18-hole score as a Bruin.  She is one stroke ahead of second place Savanna Schubert of Lipscomb and Tennessee Tech's Amber Shepherd, who each shot a 72.

Senior Kelly Maguigan is tied for seventh place after posting a 77, while junior Janet Steen and freshman Sydney Hudson are tied for ninth place after each shot a 78.  Junior Patricia Masick is tied for 37th place after carding an 89. 

Three other Bruins are competing as individuals: freshman Evin Edens (T-10th, 78), junior Megan Murphy (T-30th, 86), sophomore Morgan McQuary (T-37th, 89).

The second and final round will begin Tuesday morning with a 9:30am shotgun start.
