NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The Belmont women's golf team finished in sixth place at the Atlantic Sun Championship held this week at the Venetian Bay Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
The Bruins posted a team score of 303 in Wednesday's final round to finish in sixth place with a 54-hole score of 932. It was their best finish at the championship since a third place finish in 2008. Kennesaw State won the team title with a score of 871. ETSU placed second at 875, while Mercer finished third at 880.
Belmont had three golfers among the top-25. Freshman Evin Edens tied for 16th place at 229. She carded a four-over 76 in Tuesday's final round. Junior Janet Steen and freshman Sydney Hudson tied for 25th place at 233. Both Steen and Hudson posted a round of 75 on Tuesday. Senior Kelly Maguigan finished in 32nd place at 237, while senior Jennifer Newman placed 39th at 246. Gabriella Wahl of ETSU won the individual title.
This tournament ends the 2011-12 season for the women's golf team. In their 10 events, the squad won one team title (Belmont Invitational) and posted seven top-10 finishes.
