Women's Soccer Hosts Pair of Exhibitions This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team will host a pair of exhibition contests at its new home E.S. Rose Park this weekend.  The Bruins host Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon and finish with Middle Tennessee State on Sunday evening.

Friday afternoon's contest with the Bulldogs of TWC will mark the first time the two programs have met.  The 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference champions advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history after amassing an 11-7-2 overall record and a 5-1 AAC mark but were held off in the opening round by Lee University.  Tennessee Wesleyan returns four All-AAC players for 2011 – defenders Deanna Dawson (First Team) and Abby Fannin (Third Team), and forwards Britten Fandrich and Kimberly Key (both Second Team).

The Bruins have not seen action against midstate rival Middle Tennessee State since the 2009 season.  The Blue Raiders hold a 7-4 all-time series advantage over BU with Belmont winning two of the last three meetings.  With its first Sun Belt Tournament title, MTSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and finished 2010 with a 13-9-2 overall record and a 9-2 league mark.  The Blue Raiders return three Sun Belt All-Tournament team selections – goalkeeper Rebecca Cushing, forward Regina Thomas and midfielder Whitney Jorgenson.

BU opens exhibition play with TWC on Friday beginning at 5 p.m.  Sunday's contest with MTSU begins at 6 p.m.  A live Twitter feed will be available at www.twitter.com/BelmontWSoccer during the matches.
