NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of strong outings protecting Belmont women's soccer goal last weekend has earned sophomore Lily Herman (Springboro, Ohio) OVC Co-Goalkeeper of the Week accolades, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Herman acquired her first career conference honor after logging 200 minutes during a weekend that featured a 3-0 shutout against UIC and the team's first double overtime draw at UAB. The sophomore registered nine saves and only relinquished one goal to push Belmont's overall record to 4-2-1 on the season.
During the Bruins match against the Flames on Friday, Herman made a stop in the first half that ultimately kept her shutout intact. It was in the 17th minute when UIC was attempting to make a counter attack and dove in front a hard shot from the top of the box to deny the Flames a chance at taking the advantage. The Springboro, Ohio product continued to make critical stops for a remainder of the weekend.
This season Herman has spent 396 minutes in goal, appearing in five matches and tallying 16 saves. She owns both of BU's shutouts in 2017 and has compiled a 0.91 goals against average, only giving up four thus far.
Herman was joined by Co-Goalkeeper Mary Parker Powell from Austin Peay.
Belmont kicks off OVC competition this weekend, first traveling to SIUE on Friday, Sept. 15 before hosting Austin Peay Sunday, Sept. 17.
