Mississippi Valley State Tops Softball in Tiger Classic
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two lightning delays, one for nearly 45 minutes, as well as a rain delay to start the game, kept Belmont from finding a rhythm in the second game of the day Saturday in the Tiger Classic hosted by Tennessee State University. The Bruins lost 1-8 to Mississippi Valley State in a game that lasted for over three hours.
Belmont surrendered six runs in the first inning before holding MVSU to only two runs the rest of the game. The Bruins scored their only run in the top of the fourth when pinch runner senior Cassie Bollin came around to score on sophomore Ashley Hammer's single up the middle. Belmont stranded five base runners for the game. The Bruins will face MVSU again tomorrow morning when the two teams meet at 11:15 a.m. Belmont is now 0-2 all time against MVSU.
