Women's Tennis Beats USC Upstate on the Road 5-2
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Belmont women's tennis team notched their second road victory of the season as they defeated USC Upstate 5-2 in an Atlantic Sun Conference match held Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number two, Lindsay Bennett and Laura Stack defeated Maria Tonani and Talia Rojas 8-6, while at number three, Natalia Nunes and Catherine Holliday beat Catherine Estupinan and Samantha Knopsnyder 8-0.
In singles, Belmont continued their strong play, winning four of the six matches to clinch the 5-2 victory over the Spartans. At number one, Fabiana Mersan beat Maria Tonani 6-1, 7-5, while Lindsay Bennett won at number three over Karen Martinez 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6-4). BU's other two wins came at number five as Laura Stack beat Catherine Estupian 6-3, 6-0 and at number six as Abigail Hogan beat Samantha Knopsnyder 6-0, 6-0.
Belmont (6-12, 2-7) returns to the court next Friday as they host Western Kentucky in a 1:00pm match at Centennial Sportsplex.
