Hogan, Caire Lead Women's Tennis at the MTSU Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Belmont women's team kicked off their fall season this past weekend at the MTSU Shootout in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

In singles, the Bruins were led by senior Abbey Hogan and junior transfer Carolyn Caire.  In the Lightning Flight, Hogan went 2-1 and won the consolation bracket.  After falling to Andra Cornea of Austin Peay 7-5, 6-1 in the first round, she picked up victories over Alex Crofford of Western Kentucky and her teammate Carolyn Caire.    

Caire, a transfer from Evansville, went 2-2 in the Lightning Flight.  She lost in the first round to Flavia Nagayama of MTSU 6-1, 6-1, but came back to beat Katrina Vucina of Western Kentucky 6-2, 6-1.  After falling to Abbey Hogan in the consolation finals, she beat Alex Crofford of Western Kentucky 2-6, 6-0, 10-3.

In doubles play, the highlight was the play of the duo of Spenser-Anne Edwards and Abbey Hogan.  They went 1-1 as they beat Morgan Freeman of Western Kentucky and Andra Cornea of Austin Peay, but fell to Mariya Slupska and Stefanie Mikesz of Memphis  8-3.

The women's tennis team will be back in action on October 7-9 at the Austin Peay Fall Classic in Clarksville, Tennessee.
