Women's Tennis Cruises Past North Alabama 6-1

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated North Alabama 6-1 in a non-conference match played indoors Friday night at the Wildwood Tennis Club in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Belmont (1-3) picked up the first point of the match as they won two of three doubles matches.  At number one, Laura Stack and Carolyn Caire defeated Victoria Rees and Bruna Vieira 8-5, while at number three, Nikki Maciel and Catherine Holliday beat Natalia Barragan and Teresa Franco 8-2.

In singles, the Bruins won five of six singles matches to clinch the 6-1 victory over the visiting Lady Lions.  At number one, Fabiana Mersan beat Victoria Rees 6-4, 5-2.  In number three singles, Carolyn Caire defeated Natalia Barranga 6-2, 6-1, while at number four Catherine Holliday won in straight sets over Bruna Vieira 6-2, 6-2.  At number five singles, Laura Stack beat Madison Patey in three sets, while Natala Nunes defeated Teresa Franco 6-2, 6-1 at the number six position.

Belmont returns to the court Saturday with two home matches.  They will face Western Kentucky at 10:00am and then host Kentucky Wesleyan at 5:30pm.  Both matches will be played indoors at the Wildwood Club.
