BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – In its first season in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), the Belmont women's tennis team was picked to finish eighth by the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office on Friday.
Defending champion Eastern Kentucky was the top vote getter as they received 10 first place votes and 100 points. UT-Martin was picked second with one first place vote and 89 points, while Austin Peay was selected third with 79 points.
The rest of the preseason poll included: Murray State (66 points), Eastern Illinois (58 points), Jacksonville State (50 points), Morehead State (48 points), Belmont (40 points), Southeast Missouri (34 points), SIUE (31 points), and Tennessee State (11 points).
"Since this is our first year in the league, it's not surprising on where we were picked," said Mark Srouji, Belmont head coach. "But we are excited that the season has begun and look forward to the start of conference play."
The Bruins, who are currently 1-2 on the season, return to action next Friday, February 8th as they host Western Kentucky indoors at the Westside Athletic Club. The team's first OVC match is scheduled for March 16th at Jacksonville State.
