2017 (Senior): Posted his first multi-hit game of the year against Western Kentucky (2.22), going 2-for-5 at the plate...Registered his first career triple against Bowling Green (2.26)... Had been walked a team-best seven times in the first eight contests, three resulting in runs... Named to the 2017 Johnny Bench Award watch list for his contributions behind the plate... Launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to cap a five-run inning and tie the game against Morehead State (3.18)... Blasted his second long ball of the season at Austin Peay (4.8), accounting for one of the Bruins two runs... Caught a conference-best 11 runners attempting to steal through the squads first 30 games... Lifted his third home run at Jacksonville State (4.22) to tie the game up en route to the Bruins come-from-behind victory... Went 3-for-3 at the plate in the series opener against Murray State (4.28), including blasting his fourth home run... Tied a career-best three-hit performance at Tennessee (5.9)... Launched his first homerun as a Bruin against Army (2/28) ... Two hits and three RBIs against Youngstown State (3/6/16) ... Two hits and three RBIs against NIU (3/12/16) ... Launched a grandslam, totaled three hits and drove in five in BU's win over NIU (3/13/16) ... Two hits, including a three-run homerun against EKU (3/20/16) ... Second straight game with a three-run homer as he went deep against Lipscomb and drove in five (3/22/16) ... Homered again against Morehead State when he finished with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored (3/24/16) ... Homered in three-straight games (3/20-24/16) ... For the regular season Payne batted .291, with 23 doubles, 10 homers and 59 runs driven in … Starting 29 games at catcher, 12 in rightfield and nine at DH, and led the conference with 23 doubles which ranked him seventh in all of Division I … His 59 RBI led the team and ranked him fourth in the OVC as well as top 50 in the country … Payne produced a team-high 17 multi-RBI games and added 17 multi-hit games …

Prior to Belmont: Payne is a transfer from Jackson State Community College ... He posted .331 batting average, registered eight homeruns and drove in 45 runs ... Posted a .441 on base percentage, and slugged .607 in his lone season ... Earned First Team All-Conference honors ... Spent his first year of eligibility as a member of the McNeese State team ... He played in 32 of the 58 games and batted .260 while driving in 10 runs.
