Gearing Up For The Gamecocks

Gearing Up For The Gamecocks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the Ohio Valley Conference baseball table tightening, Belmont University Baseball heads to Jacksonville State for an important conference series this weekend. First pitch for the series is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT Friday, April 12 at JSU Stadium.

There continues to be a jam at the top of the OVC standings. Belmont, Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Murray State are tied with a .667 winning percentage. Belmont, however, has played one more OVC series than the other three teams and is 0.5 games up. Austin Peay is knocking on the door just one game back from the top of the table.

Before this weekend, Belmont and JSU have met 22 times. BU trails in the overall series 9-13. The first meeting between the teams was in 2002 when Belmont was in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Last season, Jacksonville state came to Nashville and swept the Bruins.

Two Bruins will be headed back to their home state of Alabama this weekend. Tommy Crider hails from Madison and Grayson Taylor calls Cullman home.

Sophomore Kyle Brennan (Franklin, Tenn.) has been incredibly impressive as a reliever on the mound this season. He has thrown 19-straight scoreless innings, dating back to March 2 against Bowling Green State University. In this stretch, he has walked just two batters and has notched 12 strikeouts, including a 5.1 inning scoreless relief appearance against SIUE.

Senior Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) has historically been an offensive force for the Bruins. Despite a slow start to his senior campaign, Hadden's bat has been hot as of late. In the last week he has notched eight hits with three multi-hit games, improving his batting average to .231. He is currently riding a six-game hitting streak.

In addition to an ESPN+ stream of each game, live stats and audio will also be available. Fans can also follow @belmontbaseball on twitter for live updates.
