BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After an incredible outing on the mound this weekend, freshman Joshua South (Cookeville, Tenn.) was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the week the league announced Monday.
South notched his second complete game of the season on Saturday against Jacksonville State. He allowed just three hits and struck out nine in a 7-1 victory. After the first batter reached base, South recorded eight consecutive outs to start his day.
Over the final three innings of the game, he faced just two over the minimum. Overall, the freshman faced the minimum in six of his nine innings and needed just 114 pitches (71 of which were strikes) to secure the win. South currently ranks first in the OVC in complete games (2) and second in innings pitched (6.62/game).
The Bruins will be back in action this weekend for a midweek matchup against Western Kentucky University on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. CT.
