HOUSTON - - Belmont University men's basketball senior Jeff Laidig (Mishawaka, Ind.) took part in 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four® festivities as a member of the Allstate Good Works Team®.
One of the highest honors in all of college basketball, the Allstate Good Works Team® recognizes college basketball athletes that have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of others through giving back to their communities.
Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team® were invited by Allstate to be recognized at the 2016 NABC Convention and 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four®, and participated in a community service project to benefit the host city of Houston.
Laidig recapped his experience, in his own words:
There are several things I will take away from the time I spent at the Final Four in Houston with the Allstate Good Works Team. First and foremost, the Belmont Basketball program is extremely well respected in the college basketball community. There were over 150,000 people in Houston for the Final Four, and I couldn't count the amount of basketball fans that complimented our program and Coach Byrd. I couldn't believe how many followed us, and knew all about our season. These kinds of comments make you really proud to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Secondly, the other nine guys on the Good Works Team were truly extraordinary people. I was blown away by some of the things they are doing in their community and all over the world. Every one of them had aspirations to help other people and the things they are doing are remarkable. It was a humbling experience to be recognized alongside such selfless people. These guys gave me hope that our generation is headed in the right direction; our God is at work! I'm very thankful I was able to meet these guys, and I look forward to keeping in touch with them going forward.
