NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach Rick Byrd earned placement among the top 25 college coaches in the state of Tennessee.

Compiled by David Climer of the Nashville Ledger, Byrd ranked No. 4, behind only Vanderbilt baseball head coach Tim Corbin, Tennessee football head coach Butch Jones, and Memphis men's basketball head coach Tubby Smith.

Byrd, who ranks sixth among active NCAA Division I head coaches in career victories with 731, has led Belmont to 15 conference championships (eight regular season, seven tournament) since 2006, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, and national Top 25 poll votes and top 100 RPI rankings each of the past six seasons.

The Knoxville, Tennessee native is the winningest non-Power 5 coach in the nation and has overseen a program with perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores seven consecutive years. 

Byrd, a 12-time district or conference coach of the year, received the 2012 NCAA Bob Frederick Sportsmanship Award and was a 2013 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
