NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Thursday at Tennessee State.
Belmont defeated Morehead State, 83-73, Feb. 3. Junior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.) scored a game-high 25 points for the Bruins. McClain has 17 double figure scoring games this season, ranking among OVC leaders in scoring (13.9), steals (1.3), and rebounding from the guard position (4.9) during league games.
Senior Amanze Egekeze (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) continues to be a pillar of consistency for the Bruins. The 6-8 forward has 58 career double figure scoring games, including his 30-point performance at Eastern Kentucky last week (2/1/18). Egekeze ranks among OVC leaders in eight statistical categories, including fourth in scoring (16.4) and 3-point field goals made (65). Egekeze had a career-high three blocked shots vs. Tennessee State last season (2/25/17).
Senior Austin Luke (Rowlett, Texas) had a season-high seven rebounds at Morehead State (2/3/18). Luke, the nation's leading returning assist man, ranks eighth nationally in assists per game (7.2) and fourth in total assists (179). Luke had a career-high 20 points and then career-high 11 assists vs. Tennessee State (1/24/16) for his first career double-double.
Junior Dylan Windler (Indianapolis, Ind.) recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds at Morehead State. Windler, who was recently named NCAA.com National Player of the Week, ranks among OVC leaders in nine statistical categories, including first in rebounding (8.8) and third in scoring (17.2).
Freshman Nick Hopkins (Fayetteville, Tenn.) has hit at least one 3-point field goal in 21 games this season. The guard had his 10th double figure scoring game of the season at Morehead State and is threatening Belmont's NCAA Division I era freshman single-season record for 3-pointers made.
Former All-OVC players Ian Clark of Belmont and Robert Covington of Tennessee State are enjoying solid young careers in the NBA; Clark for the New Orleans Pelicans and Covington for the Philadelphia 76ers.
This marks the 29th meeting between Belmont and Tennessee State. Belmont won, 93-76 and 68-63, last season.
