NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball senior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.) has been named OVC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The 6-3 guard posted 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in Belmont's 74-72 victory at 11-time National Champion UCLA Saturday.
McClain scored the game-winning basket with 2.3 seconds remaining to punctuate the inspired performance. He also spearheaded a defensive effort that held UCLA to 8-for-23 shooting in the second half.
It marked McClain's 42nd career double figure scoring game, putting him 160 points shy of 1,000.
He was named Preseason All-OVC Oct. 23.
McClain shared the honor with Terry Taylor of Austin Peay.
Belmont returns to game action Dec. 19 vs. Western Kentucky. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT from the Curb Event Center.
Belmont University men's basketball has earned postseason invitations 12 of the last 13 seasons, including seven automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 16 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas).
