RICHMOND, Ky. - - Behind 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists from senior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.), Belmont University men's basketball defeated Eastern Kentucky, 83-65, Thursday night.
Senior All-America candidate Dylan Windler (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 20 points, 14 rebounds and five assists as Belmont won its sixth consecutive game.
McClain scored seven points in the final 3:36 of the first half as Belmont led 45-31 at halftime.
Belmont shot 56 percent (20-for-36) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Two baskets from junior Seth Adelsperger (Peru, Ind.) around a Windler 3-pointer stretched the margin to 59-39 with 14:26 left.
The Bruins used strong defense and rebounding to hold the Colonels without a field goal for a five-minute stretch midway through the second half.
A Windler tip-in pushed the Belmont lead to 27, 73-46, with 7:47 remaining.
Belmont handed out 24 assists on 35 made field goals and limited Eastern Kentucky to 39 percent shooting.
Freshman Nick Muszynski (Pickerington, Ohio) had 13 points and four assists while Adelsperger added 11.
Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky (10-14, 3-8 OVC) with 22 points.
Belmont (18-4, 9-2 OVC), which remains in a tie for first place in the OVC standings, returns to game action Saturday, Feb. 9 at Morehead State.
