NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Saturday at Middle Tennessee.

Belmont dropped an 87-82 decision at Eastern Washington Nov. 26. Sophomore Nick Muszynski (Pickerington, Ohio) scored a career-high 30 points for the Bruins. Muszynski went 13-for-18 from the field and added seven rebounds and four blocked shots. The 6-11 center leads the Ohio Valley Conference in blocked shots per game (2.3). He was named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List.

Graduate student Tyler Scanlon (Centreville, Va.) had a season-high 17 points at Eastern Washington. The 6-7 forward has handed out three or more assists in six of seven games this season.

Sophomore Adam Kunkel (Hebron, Ky.) leads Belmont in scoring at 17.9 points per game. The 6-3 guard scored a career-high 35 points at Boston College en route to OVC Player of the Week honors, as well as national acclaim from Andy Katz in his weekly notebook on 

Freshman Ben Sheppard (Atlanta, Ga.) has provided great energy and production off the bench this season. The 6-6 wing has scored in five games, including a season-high seven points at Lipscomb.

Senior Michael Benkert (Greenwood, Ind.) provided seven points and a career-high nine rebounds at Eastern Washington. The 6-4 guard has started 11 consecutive games dating back to last season, including Belmont's 81-70 victory over Temple in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Belmont head coach Casey Alexander faced Middle Tennessee last season as head coach at Lipscomb.

Muszynski and 2019 Belmont graduate and All-OVC guard Kevin McClain were recruited to UNC Asheville by Middle Tennessee head coach Nick McDevitt.

This is the 17th straight season Belmont and Middle Tennessee have played during the non-conference schedule.

This marks the 40th meeting between Belmont and Middle Tennessee. The Bruins won last season, 92-73, in Nashville. All-American Dylan Windler had 34 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Belmont University men's basketball has earned postseason invitations 13 of the last 14 seasons, including eight berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 17 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas). Belmont is one of only six NCAA Division I programs outside the Power 5 to post Top 100 RPIs nine consecutive seasons (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), San Diego State, Wichita State). Belmont is one of only nine NCAA Division I programs to win 19 or more games 14 consecutive seasons (BYU, Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, San Diego State). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 17 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of existence.
