NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf program has added three student-athletes for the 2012-2013 school year.
Sean Buchanan is from Phoenix, Arizona and prepped at Desert Vista High School. During his four years at Desert Vista, he helped lead his team to back-to-back runner up finishes at the Arizona Division I State Championship (2010, 2011) and was named to the AIA All-Region 5A team. In addition, during his junior career, he won two events and posted 11 top-five finishes.
Bryan Grisard is the lone Midstate addition for the Bruins. A native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Grisard tied for sixth at last October's Tennessee Class AAA State Tournament and helped his Hendersonville High School team win their second straight state team title. He also earned the TSSAA Academic Award of Merit in 2011 and was a four-year winner of the TSSAA Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Award.
Ashton Van Horne is a Georgetown, Kentucky native and played golf for three years at Scott County High School. During his senior season at Scott County, he helped lead his team to the Central Kentucky Conference (CKC) Championship and was named to the All-CKC Team for the second time. In addition, he was the 2011 Plantations Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year and won his age group at the Kentucky State Junior Amateur, where he finished second overall.
"I am excited about having these three young men join our men's golf program," said Scott Flynn, Belmont head coach. "They have had successful junior careers and I expect them to make an immediate impact when they come to Belmont next fall."
In five events this fall, the Belmont men's golf team posted four top-10 finishes. The squad will kick off its 2012 spring season on March 5-6 at the Samford intercollegiate.
