NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team kicks off their 2018-19 season this Monday and Tuesday at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Bruins enter this season hoping to build on their third place finish at the OVC Championship with a squad made up of a mix of veterans and newcomers. There are six returning players and four new ones.
Leading the way are sophomore Jack Uselton and senior Daniel Booker. Uselton ranked second on the team last season in scoring average with a 75.4. He posted three top-20 finishes, including earning co-medalist honors at last year's OVC Championship. Jack is the first Belmont golfer to win a conference individual championship.
Booker, a Dyersburg, Tennessee native, ranked fourth on the team in scoring at 75.7. He had four top-20 finishes and had his best finish of the season, a 14th place showing at the MTSU Old Fort Intercollegiate last fall.
Among the four newcomers on this year's squad are two freshmen and two upperclassmen. Freshman Jack Bergstrom is a Kentucky native who won three individual titles and earned a top-20 finish at the State Tournament during his prep career, while Coleman Jones, a Brentwood Academy product, was the 2017 Tennessee Sneds Tour Player of the Year and won the 2017 State Junior Amateur. The two upperclassmen include junior Brendan Lewis, who played the last two seasons at John A. Logan College in Illinois and reached the NJCCAA National Championship twice, and senior Parker Buck, who is back on the golf team for this season after an absence last year.
The Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational is a two-day, 54-hole event, with 36 holes played on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament will be held at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington. The field features 15 teams, which features the likes of host Marshall, Dayton, Wichita State, VCU, and fellow OVC members Eastern Kentucky. The first round will begin Monday morning with a 9:30am ET shotgun start. Follow live scoring of the event through BelmontBruins.com or Birdiefire.com.
